Clarence Williams

Mr. Clarence Williams, 89, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024. He was born February 6, 1935, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Lloyd and Katie Mae (Ward) Williams.


Clarence, the youngest of three children, confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age. His family relocated to Saginaw, Michigan, when Clarence was 14. He attended Saginaw Public Schools. At the age of 17, Clarence joined the United States Air Force and upon completion of his military obligation, received an Honorable Discharge. In June of 1982, he met Cornelia “Connie” Cooper; they were married on April 18, 1987. Clarence retired from General Motors (Chevrolet Grey Iron) and was affiliated with UAW Local 668.


Clarence had been a longtime member of Prince of Peace Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor K.M. Merkerson, serving as the first usher of the church. His faithful service continued under Pastor Robert B. Corley Jr., singing with the Male Chorus until his health failed. Clarence enjoyed traveling, telling jokes, spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards with his cousins, going to Bingo, and fishing with his wife. Clarence will always be cherished and dearly missed by his family.


Clarence leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Cornelia “Connie” Williams; three daughters, Regina Williams, Lakewood, California, Rosaland Williams (Sterling), Los Angeles, California, and Amy Cooper (Lonnie), Saginaw, Michigan; grandchildren, Kim Jefferson “ManMan,” Brittany Brandon, Ronald, Myvon, Teonna, and Ceondra Williams, all of Saginaw, Michigan, and Tristan Williams, Los Angeles, California; a host of great-grandchildren; niece, Rowchell Yates, Pontiac, Michigan; nephew, Jerome A. Prince, Gary, Indiana, (former Mayor), Earnest Landant “Pookie,” Lansing, Michigan; seven sisters-in-law, Christine Davis, Hartford, Connecticut, Katherine “Kat,” Birmingham, Alabama, Geneva Woods, Windora “Windy” Cooper, Cora Murray, Regenia Harris, and Dorothy (Larry) Woods, all of Chicago, Illinois; one brother-in-law, James Cooper, Saginaw, Michigan; uncle, Napoleon Williams; cousin, Cathaline “Bitty” Williams; longtime good friend, Loretta King and her children, Saginaw, Michigan.


Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Kattie Mae Williams; one daughter, Theresa Jefferson; one son, Arthur E. Cooper; brother, Lloyd Williams Jr.; sister, Roberta Jackson; niece, Cathy Jackson Stewart; and cousin, Katherine Williams.
