February 7, 1943 — June 5, 2009

Our beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away following a lengthy illness, on Friday, June 5, 2009, at the age of 66, at Cape Fear Hospital in Fayetteville, NC.
Roy Cooper was born on February 7, 1943, to Nathan and Annie Cooper in Greenville, MS. He was a veteran having served in the Vietnam War for two years. He was employed by General Motors Saginaw Malleable Iron for more than 25 years and retired in 1999. Shortly thereafter, he relocated to Clinton, NC. Roy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends playing cards, fishing and just having a good time joking around.
He is survived by his constant companion and loving wife of 22 years, Dorothy Cooper; nine children: Katrina (Tarell Royal) Coles of Clinton, NC.; Carl Cooper, Tiffany Hicks, Latisha Fuller, Itonya Goodwine and Tonya (Mitchell) Patrick, all of Saginaw, MI.; Stephanie (Joe) Shehee of Ringold, LA.; Robin (Jonathan) Brown of Orlando, FL.; and David Clark of South Bend, IN.; two brothers and seven sisters: Nathan (Elizabeth) Cooper, Chicago, IL; Charles (Linda) Stidhum, Annie (Daniel ) Goodwine, Barbara Hoskins, Emma Haines, Millie (Zollie) Stidhum-Stewart, Debra Clark and Carolyn (Anthony) Baber, all of Saginaw, MI.; Mamie Cooper, Greenville, MS; his mother-in-law Catherine Clark; four brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law: Hilliard (Barbara) Clark of Hinesville, GA; Honorable Judge Terry L. Clark, George (Betty) Clark, Timothy Clark, and Sherley Clark, all of Saginaw, MI; Ruth Clark of Bay City, MI; Jacqueline (Smitty) Clark of Bahalia, MS; a special sister-in-law Hilda (Charles) Royal and her sons Don Juan and Jeremiah of Clinton, NC; 26 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six godchildren.
Special friends include Douglas Newman and Jeff Ransom Royal of Clinton, NC; Cleveland Williamson, James McGee, Frank Jones and Erving Townsend of Saginaw, MI. Mr. Cooper also leaves to cherish his memory many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Annie Lee Stidhum, father Nathan Cooper and a sister-in-law, Ruby Clark.
