Cornelius (aka “Corn/Curly”) was born with Sickle Cell Anemia disease which is a prominent blood disorder in the African American community. Sickle Cell Anemia is a blood disorder inherited from parents diagnosed with the Sickle Cell trait and/or anemia. The Lord granted Cornelius favor to live 58 years with this disease, although Corn suffered his entire life with the side effects. The life expectancy for sickle cell is 40-60 years. The Sickle Cell complications that Corn continually endured included: ongoing chronic pain, strokes, leg ulcers, and pulmonary hypertension (breathing). Since 1968, Corn and his mother were long-term advocates to bring awareness of Sickle Cell disease to the African American community in Lansing. Cornelius often spoke with “sickle cell buddy,” his cousin, Chequonda for hours about one day finding a cure for this disease and setting goals in life.
Additionally, Cornelius was a faithful sports enthusiast. Corn enjoyed his favorite team the Spartans of Michigan State University.
Cornelius always expressed love for his family and leaves to cherish in his memory, his wife, Kimberly Atwood Jones; sons, Ce-air-in Atwood and Allen Wiseman, Jr.; granddaughter, Brielle Atwood; mother, Marion Watts Jones; brothers, Anthony Jones “Tony”, Quintin Jones, Alfonso Jones, Sexual Sin de un Abdul Blue (aka, Reggie Jones), Anthony Robinson, Dereke (Nikeya) Jones, and Nathaniel Jones, Jr.; sister, Yevetta (special brother-in-law, Everett) Jones-Revels; many nephews, nieces, cousins including a special cousin, Chequonda Carter, other relatives, and friends.
Proceeding Cornelius in death by his father, Nathaniel Jones; grandparents, Joseph (Ophelia) Watts and Rosa Watts; brothers, Demetrius Watts and Cedric Jones; and nephew, Demetrius Wright.
