Cornell Jones

May 18, 1956 — April 25, 2021

Our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Mr. Cornell Jones was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper. Age 64 years. He was born on May 18, 1956 in Poplar Grove, Arkansas to Rebecca Connor.

Cornell relocated to Saginaw, Michigan in 1973 and attend Saginaw High School. He was employed seventeen years as a cab driver for the Yellow Cab Company prior to his retirement. Cornell was also employed at Cheyboygan County Fair in Cheyboygan, MIchigan, and as a delivery driver for the Bridgeport Pharmacy. After a long battle with drug and alcohol addiction, Cornell made the choice to become sober. He celebrated 27 years of sobriety as of December 18, 2020, with no slips, no dips or weekend trips! Cornell enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, fishing, Piston games, eating crab legs, and watching his favorite girl, Sharbrea, play basketball. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Jones leaves to cherish loving memories his wife, Margaret Jones, three daughters and two sons, Quincy (Allison) Elliott, Mooresville, North Carolina, Vondell Simpson, Saginaw, Michigan, Brandi Bryant and Au-Jeantte Williams, Oakland, California, and Nicole Smith, Saginaw, Michigan; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lorene Mitchell, Ohio, Gail Belcher, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Geraldine Belcher, Ohio; one brother, Cleophus (Marcie) Belcher, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews; aunt, Joe Ann Thompson, Johnson, Texas; uncle, Willie Jones, Helena, Arkansas; many cousins; sisters-in-law, Alma Samuels, Evelyn Ramsey and Wilma Box, Saginaw, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Lee (Ann) Box, Columbia, South Carolina, and Raymond Box, Saginaw, Michigan; many other relatives and friends too numerous to list.

Cornell was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Connor, daughter, Shavonne Barnes, sister, Marilyn Langston, grandparents, aunts, and uncle.

The family would like to express special thanks to Bridgeport Rescue, EMS and Fire Department, the staff of Covenant Cooper ICU, and all who called, texted, and came by to show the Jones family their support.
