Cornell Watson (Lansing)

March 11, 1954 — May 16, 2020

Mr. Cornell Watson went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the age 66 years old. He was born March 11, 1954, in Drummonds, Tennessee, to the union of John Lee, Sr. and Gladys Watson.

Cornell relocated with his family to Lansing, Michigan in April 1967. He received formal education through the Lansing School District, graduating from J.W. Sexton High School. After graduation, he pursued his passion for cars, becoming a professional mechanic. Cornell helped many family members and friends by replacing brakes, repairing transmissions, replacing entire engines, and any other repairs. In many cases he did it as a labor of love without charging anything.

Early in his career, he worked as a cook for Grand Gourmet restaurant. Cornell worked for Auto Port for many years, transporting General Motors vehicles. He was also a painter and was very meticulous about all of his work. His professional work was a reflection of his quiet desire to make a difference in people's lives.

Cornell loved to laugh and was known for his unique sense of humor. When talking to him, you knew that he was really locked into what you said, by hearing him say these staple sayings “I heard that” and “Right-on”.

He received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He was an active member of Robinson Memorial Church of God in Christ. After receiving Jesus, he quickly began to serve God and God’s people. Cornell joined the Usher Board and became one of the first people to greet you as you entered the doors, with his warm and inviting smile. He worked diligently in the vineyard of God until he no longer had the strength to do so.

Cornell leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Keiyonna (Delmar), Latreka (Gabino), and Sherri; son, Terrell; eleven grandchildren; parents, John, Sr. and Gladys; brother, John, Jr. (Peggy); sisters, Veara, Evelyn (Stan), Gail (James), Shari (Daniel); aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives, and friends.

Cornell was proceeded in death by his son, Darnell Watson and sister, Odessa Watson.

*****Private funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2020.*****
