Curshawn Terrell (Lansing)

November 4, 1982 — December 31, 2022

This is the story of the one and only Curshawn Lamont Terrell (Nov. 4, 1982 - Dec. 31, 2022). Curshawn is a wonderful man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Our "Lakaz or Kaz" as he liked to be called was an amazing Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend, and Musical Genius.

Curshawn's story starts on November 4, 1982, where he was born to the union of Rochelle Terrell and the late Wayne A. Harris Sr. in Lansing, Michigan. He was part of a package deal that included his twin sister Crystal. Curshawn came into this world first and Crystal followed 24 minutes later. As you can see, he was anxious and ready to take on the world and even then, made his twin keep up.

Curshawn dedicated his life to the Lord at an early age while attending services with his grandfather Laurence. He received his education from Lansing Public Schools, Baton Rouge Public Schools, and graduated from Lansing Everett High School in 2001.

As a child Curshawn knew how to put a smile on everyone's face and carried that same personality into his adult life. He knew what he wanted out of life early on by listening to all genres of music and having the gift to break down the sounds of instruments and placements. His love for the art of music started as a young boy playing on his karaoke machine and the Casio keyboard his mother gifted him. He would spend hours playing and imitating the melodies of artists he heard on cassette tapes. That gift was special to him, and he nurtured that to the best of his ability. At the age of 16 he took his craft seriously and wanted to elevate his talents. While his friends were playing outside, he would stay in his bedroom creating and perfecting his gift. Being detailed and particular is one way to describe Curshawn, from the way he dressed, to the way he wore his hair, and the countless hours he dedicated to his craft. Holding a higher standard for himself opened doors as he helped others live out their dreams. Whether it was a single, an EP, or a full album he made sure that the artist was confident with their work as well as his own. His caring and humble spirit made it easy to trust his process and advice, which resulted in exquisite masterpieces of music. Cushawn accomplished so much in his short time on this earth, from giving a local kid a shot at recording a track, helping his family and childhood friends live out their dreams of being a recording artist, and signing an in-house producer deal with DJ Khaled "We the Best" Management. The one accomplishment that outshone it all was being a father to his beautiful daughter Amarise, who he protected, cherished, and loved from the day she was born. If you saw Curshawn you would see Amarise, she was and will forever be his best friend.

Brother Curshawn Terrell was initiated as an Entered Apprentice June 21, 2011, passed to the degree of Fellow Craft October 18, 2011, and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason November 20, 2011. Brother Terrell was a devoted and skilled craftsman of Capitol Lodge No.8. He continued his Masonic education by receiving his 32nd degree in Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite FreeMasonry from Peninsular No.44. Brother Curshawn Terrell will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

His humbleness, love, work ethic and catalog of hits will never be forgotten.

"I'm just as human as everybody else, one of my jobs I believe from being here on earth is to help. I think my calling for being here on earth is to help people. My mom always told me in order to get blessings you gotta help and bless others. Just that simple". -KAZ DRUMATIK

Other than his music it was his heart and love for his family that was unmeasurable.
