Damany Amir Doby, Sr. (Lansing)

Mr. Damany Amir Doby, Sr. entered eternal rest Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Sparrow Health System in Lansing, Michigan. Age 42 years. He was born February 7, 1979, in Lansing, Michigan to Randolph Doby Jr. and Joann Adams Doby.

Damany was a lifelong resident of Lansing and a long-time member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. He attended Waverly Community Schools. Post high school, Damany enrolled at the Lan-sing Barber College and graduated to become a licensed barber. That would make the pathway for him to share his legendary talent with the world. Damany began cutting hair at the age of 11 in the basement of his childhood home. One of his first cutting challenges was his own head. Thanks to his little sister, who bumped his arm during his first cut, Damany was forced to go bald involuntarily in the sixth grade.

Early in his career, he became the barber to many MSU basketball and football players. That led him to other opportunities in other states and organizations. Many parents had a fond appreciation for the patience he extended when cutting their children's hair. His clients, young and old, had a trust in Damany like no other when it came to their hair even if it meant waiting hours for a crisp cut! His commitment to precision was evident in every cut he did including his eyebrow shaping. To say the least, Damany was a man of many talents. One skill that many were not aware of was his drawing and crafting abilities. His artistic skills inspired many of his elaborate creative designs for haircuts. Along with his passion for cutting hair, Damany loved fashion. He was known for his love of clothes, shoes, and hats!

To know Damany, was to know he loved to laugh, joke, and prank. Wherever he was, you knew he was present. Damany would talk and start a conversation with anyone. He found joy in laugh-ing when pranking and joking with his friends and family. His infectious laugh would make you laugh even if you did not feel like it. He loved more than anything to spend good times with his kids, family, and friends. Damany had a love for people and children that was unmatched. He took in many kids and loved them as his own. He would mentor any young kid who needed it. If he could, he would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He would do for others even at a cost to himself. Damany loved his family and friends to the end.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children whom he adored, Saraiyah and Damany Jr. "DJ"; adopted children, De’Zandria King, and Iyana Coates; his loving mother, Joann A. Doby; grandmother, Constance “Connie” Doby; 3 sisters, Tyese Doby, Nikki Doby, and DiArra “Dee Dee” (Cory) Doby-Wingo; nieces, Nikole Miller, Kaiya Doby, and Ariel Williams; nephews, Tylan Blades, Jalen Comer, Jaydon Osborne, and Cory Edwards; 3 uncles, Gregory (Linda) Doby, Richard (Sherry) Doby, and Russell (Jane) Doby; aunt, Rhonda Welburn, all of his cousins who will miss him dearly, godmother, Barbara Jones and godbrother, Lee Jones. He was a godfather to many children who loved him. He also leaves his memory to many special friends including Jawone Baker, Anthony Winston, Bianca Lira, Tia Alston, LaVelle Watts, Christian Benn, his Spartan Family, Waverly brothers, and Wexford family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Randolph Doby Jr.; grandfather, Randolph Doby Sr.; grandfather, Rev. Joseph Adams, and grandmother, Patsy Adams.
