Mr. Daniel Fortenberry passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at his residence in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born on March 4, 1948 in Bakersfield, California to Nelson and Ora Lee Fortenberry.

Daniel received his General Education Development Certificate “GED” in April of 1970. He served in the United States Army May 4, 1966 until May 1, 1970, receiving an Honorable Discharge. Daniel was ranked sergeant. He served in Vietnam February 27, 1968 until January 25, 1969 and earned many awards including Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation, Expert Badge (Rifle), National Defense Service Medal, and the Purple Heart. Upon completion of his military service, Daniel was employed by General Motors as a Plant Foreman for 30 years, retiring October 12, 2000.

Mr. Fortenberry’s leisure time was spent watching sports. He enjoyed basketball and football the most. His favorite basketball team was the Los Angeles Lakers. Most of all, Daniel enjoyed family time with his grandchildren, daughter, and son-in-law. He cherished memories of loved ones past and present.

He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Danielle Fortenberry; one son, Jermaine Bentley; grandchildren, Za’Taviana Hardy, Ka’Maria Fortenberry and Jeremiah Bentley, all of Saginaw, Michigan; one sister, Betty Fortenberry, 2 brothers, Cleveland and Eugene Fortenberry; sister-in-law, Denise Fortenberry; many special nieces, nephews and cousins who hold a special place in his heart; many other relatives and friends including a special friend, Michael Neal of Phoenix, Arizona.

Mr. Fortenberry was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Ora Lee Fortenberry, brothers, David, Troy and Hursey Fortenberry.
