Daniel Voltz, Jr.

August 31, 1946 — September 14, 2023

Deacon Daniel Voltz, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the age of 77 years. He was born August 31, 1946, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the oldest son of Deacon Daniel Sr. and Julia Voltz.

Deacon Voltz had been a resident of Saginaw, Michigan, since relocating from Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1965. He accepted Christ at an early age and served faithfully as a Deacon at Christ Disciples Miracle Center under the leadership of Pastor Genevieve Benson. Daniel completed high school at Druid City High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1972; he was ranked SP5. While in the U.S. Army, Daniel traveled to many places including Thailand. He retired from General Motors (Chevrolet Grey Iron Foundry Division) on March 31, 2005, after 35.5 years of service. He was affiliated with UAW Local 668. Daniel was a lifelong member of Epicurian Elks Lodge #674. He was fashionable and dressed to impress. Daniel enjoyed spending time with family and friends and talking about the Bible. He hosted the best annual family and friends Super Bowl party for everyone’s enjoyment. Daniel never met a stranger. He also enjoyed dancing (he often spoke of “sweeping the floor”), watching the Detroit Lions, spending time in his yard, attending church, and traveling. Daniel was a strong personality with a kind heart. He would be the last to leave any event, being sure that everything was in order before he left. Daniel’s yard was always manicured with flowers blooming. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and neighbors.

He leaves to cherish his memory nine daughters, Vicky Smith of Vineland, New Jersey, Jeanette (Eric) Willis of Detroit, Michigan, Mia Alexander of Romulus, Michigan, Debbie Voltz, Tawnya (Cliff) Simon, Danielle Voltz of Saginaw, Michigan, and Sandra McCall, Sharon Calhoun, and Sylvia Wirrick of Saginaw, Michigan; he also leaves nineteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lozella (William) Harris, and Belinda Voltz, of Saginaw, Michigan; four brothers, James Voltz, Leon (Marcellena) Voltz of Saginaw, Michigan, Alonzo (Denise) Voltz of Cecil, Ohio, and Napoleon Travis Sears of Atlanta, Georgia; many nieces, and nephews; one aunt, Sarah Fornis, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; special friend, Ina Redeemar; special friends, Charles Chambers, Willie Moran, Melvin Nathan, John Turner, Wilbert Dunn, Leo Hemphill, Claude Roby, and John Torrence.

Daniel was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Voltz; parents, Daniel Sr. and Julia Voltz; brothers, Robert Louis and Ivory Dean Voltz; and grandson, Tristan Calhoun.

The family wishes to thank our relatives and friends for their kind expressions of concern and heartfelt sympathy during our bereavement. We would also like to express a sincere thanks to neighbors, Alvin and Helen Jones, and the entire Briarwood Drive family. May God richly bless each of you. Thank you.
