Mr. Daniel Walker, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan following a lengthy illness. Age 83 years. He was born September 26, 1932 in Garland, Arkansas, son of Mamon and Josie Walker.
Daniel married the love of his life, the late Barbara Jean Choyce in 1954. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church of Bakersfield, California. He later moved to Saginaw, Michigan where he lived for over 60 years until his illness. Daniel was employed by the Powertrain Division of General Motors where he retired after 50 years of service. He received recognition for one million hours of service. Mr. Walker was a member of UAW Local 668. He enjoyed traveling, reminiscing, talking, and visiting with his siblings and children. He was very articulate and will be remembered for his correcting of your speech. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and learn. Playing games on the X-Box with his grandsons made his day. Daniel will be missed by all who dearly loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Donald (Deloris) Walker, Lee (Glennis) Walker, and Timothy (Starlitha) Walker, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one daughter, Helen Marie Forte of Florida; grandchildren, Jasmine Savage, Bruce Baker, Keyana Morris, Donna Brodnex, Sharonda Walker, Melva Walker, Shawane Watson, Timothy Walker Jr., Timiya Walker, Gleniece Perryman, Issac Taylor, Lee Walker Jr., two sisters, Arnese Baker of Saginaw, Michigan and Bernice Strauther of Bakersfield, California;one brother, Joshua Walker of Bakersfield, California; one brother-in-law, Calvin Choyce of Saginaw, Michigan; a host of great-grandchldren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. Walker, parents, Mamon and Josie Walker, brothers, Lawrence, James, Otis, Lavester and Rice Walker, and a daughter, Regina Walker.
The family would like to express special thanks to daughter-in-law, Glennis Walker who was his caregiver, and to Pastor Charlene Washington and the Holy Communion Gospel Center church family for their support and prayers.
