Darquis Drake

December 15, 1990 — April 30, 2014

Our beloved son, grandson and brother, Darquis Vontrell Drake went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the age of 23 years. Darquis best known as Dar Dar, was born December 15, 1990 in Saginaw, Michigan to LaWanda Drake and Bennie Earl Thomas.
Darquis was a lifelong resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Buena Vista High School and was employed by SVRC Industries. Darquis was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Albert Haynes. He enjoyed playing basketball and dancing. His favorite video game was Call Of Duty. Darquis loved spending time with his friends and family. He especially loved making others laugh. His smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his mother, LaWanda Drake; grandparents, Mama Carol Carroll, Jacqueline Tables Blunt, Rosie Lee Miller and Robert Earl Thomas Sr.; one sister, Asha Carroll; seven brothers, Demarquis Drake, Tavion Logan, Quintavious Drake, Martez Drake, Andrick Pruitt, Anthony Cannon and Tori Kelly; godmother, Keisha Wesby; two godsisters, LaKisha and Janae Jones of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; one niece, Samari Drake; one nephew, Demarqus Drake Jr.; a special aunt, Auntie Dianne Drake; several other aunts, Linda, Tina and Lisa Tables, Rosemary Miller, Beverly Thomas, Amy Henderson, LaShawaka Miller, Mary, Regina and Patricia Blunt, Loretta Hoosier, Shonda Drake and Deanna Blunt Corn; uncles, William and Charles Miller, Robert Thomas Jr., William Hoosier, Joe Willie Jones and Leon Weaver; special cousins, Mansel Reed Jr. IV and Treon Drake; a host of other cousins, Joe Jones Jr., Darnell Jones, DMario Bullock, Rikka Blunt, Sharonda Blunt, Mark Hoosier, Lavelle Connerly, Reggie Blunt, James Blunt and Malaysia Reed; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Mitchell Jones Ezell, Fredrick Lee Temple and Latoya Forster.
Darquis was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Earl Thomas Sr., grandmother, Beatrice Blunt and grandfather, Sylvester Carroll.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel, Reverend Albert Haynes and the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church family. A special thank you to everyone for the love, support and prayers that were expressed to our family during this most difficult time. We pray that our youth will put down their weapons and surrender to Christ. God bless each of you and may you sustain an everlasting peace within your souls.
