Darrell Lavinne Smith, Ii (Lansing)

Mr. Darrell LaVinne Smith, II passed Wednesday, March 31, 2021, in Lansing, Michigan. Age 16 years. He was born May 18, 2004, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Stephanie Marie McKissic Smith and Darrell LaVinne Smith, Sr.

Darrell also known as “Dee” was an active member of Friendship House of Prayer Baptist Church where he was a Junior Deacon, Junior Usher, played the piano, saxophone, sang in the choir and helped lead prayer. Darrell attended Shabazz Academy from preschool to 6th grade consistently receiving Honor Roll recognition and Malcolm X Scholar Awards. He spent his middle school and high school years at Sexton High School where he participated in football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, track, and robotics club. Darrell was also a member of the Sexton Choir, Sexton High School Marching Band, and the Greater Lansing Area Youth Club. Darrell loved to skateboard, write music, build things, and was just a jack of all trades. His beautiful bright smile would light up our lives and will forever be imprinted our hearts.

Darrell leaves to cherish his/her memory mother, Stephanie Smith; sisters, Joy Patterson, Tashara Bradley, Taja’h Smith, Da’Caira Smith, Deja Smith, and Samaria Smith; brothers, William Nelson, Tyrece (Nasea) Darden, Darrell Patterson, Michael Patterson, Juan Bruce, and De’Ronn Smith; nieces, Ortasia Duncan-Smith, Oreyeal Duncan-Smith, Oreyanna Smith, Chanel Hodges, Rosa Hodges, Aniah Darden, Alasiah Darden, Tahlia Nelson, Jayna Jesus, and Bella Patterson; nephews, Ortease Duncan-Smith, Ja’rece Darden, Tyrece Darden II, and Michael Smith; aunts, Toni Rambo, Mae Jackson, Mary Smith, Beverly McKissic, and Sherita Walters; uncles, Alex McKissic, Robert McKissic, and John McKissic, Jr.; many other relatives and friends, including special friends, Christopher Robinson, Tray’veon Hudson, Josiah Miller, Archie Skates, Kyrin, Caleb, and his best friend, as well as girlfriend, Bre’Anna Nixon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Smith, Sr.; uncle, Larry Ford; grandfather, Reverend John S. McKissic, Sr.; and grandmother, Rosemary McKissic.
