Mr. Dawarn Lamar Moncrief “Sire” passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Detroit, Michigan. Dawarn was born December 19, 1976, in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the only child of the late Larry Gene Moncrief and Wanda Dolores Givan. He was raised by his late grandparents Wallace and Annie Anderson.
Dawarn received the nickname "Sire" from his cousin Tamekia as a child I guess she knew at a young age her cousin would be a thoroughbred who would be highly respected by many. Sire was always a free-spirited soul since he was a child, he would go around exploring the neighborhood most of the time by himself. People would always come by the house to tell our uncles "I just saw your nephew". By the time he made it back home, Sire would be so dirty and came back with all kinds of trinkets that drove our grandmother crazy. Growing up Sire would love to play Chef Boyardee making his cousin sit and watch him cook us all something to eat.
Sire had one of the biggest contagious smiles you would ever see. When he came around his family, he made it his duty for everyone to have a great time. He would make you get up and dance tell funny stories and imitate other family members, especially the elders. Sire was also the protector of the family didn't matter if you were young or older he would always go out of his way to make sure you were good. He was never scared to use his voice and speak his mind. Even with his outer hard persona, Sire had a heart of gold. He would call and talk to you for hours and the conversation was never dull if you got off within thirty minutes he would give you a callback. His memory was impeccable things most of us would forget he could tell you play-by-play like it just happened. Anywhere Sire went people would gravitate and fall in love with him. Even in difficult times and most of his absence Sire's heart was always devoted to his mother, children, and grandchildren.
Dawarn leaves to cherish in his memory his beloved mother Wanda D. Givan; daughter Regine Moncrief; son, A'Dontay Moncrief; grandchildren, Darius Gene Washington, and Raegan Symone Welch; aunts, Mary J (John) Lewis, and Monica Williams; uncles, Clint (Kimberly) Givan, Yul (Diane) Givan, Dexter B Givan, Archie Moncrief, Alfred Moncrief, and Antonio Williams; grandmother, Jessie Moncrief; godfather, Michael Wayne Perkins; special cousins, Tamekia L Givan, Roshanna E Givan, Eric Romell Perkins, and Terrance Norman, and a host of cousins, great aunts, and uncles.
Dawarn was preceded in death by his father Larry Gene Moncrief, son Lamar Lamear Moncrief, grandparents; Wallace & Annie Anderson, O'Neal Givan Sr., Eugene Moncrief, and James Lee, auntie Rene Moncrief, uncles Jessie Lavell Moncrief, Vincent Moncrief, and O'Neal "Pete" Givan.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14" Brother and Sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him."
