Deacon Huey Wright, Sr. was born the son of Will Wright and Pearlina Straughter, in Tallulah, Louisiana, on September 25, 1925. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on October 5, 2023, at the age of 98.
Huey was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the US Army and was awarded an Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and a World War II Victory medal for his service during World War II. In 1945, he was awarded an Honorable Discharge. After retiring from the General Motors-Malleable plant, he was the owner of Huey’s Small Engine repair shop that proudly serviced the south side community of Saginaw. After having only a 6th-grade education, Huey obtained his General Education Development (GED) from Ruben Daniels Learning Center in 1983. Deacon Huey was a dedicated member of the Spiritual Israel Church for over 50 years. He was also an amazing cook who specialized in Sweet Potatoes and Banana Pudding.
Deacon Wright’s legacy will be forever cherished by his children, Stephanie (David) McMillon, Donnell (Lorena) McCray, Craig McCray, Delores Davis, Joyce Davis, Harold (Rosalind) McCray, Renwick Robinson, Faye Mueller, Patrick Martin, Ebonee Wright, Huey (LaTrea) Wright, Jr, and Demarcus (Denavia) Brazil. He also leaves behind his spouse, Carolyn Brown. Deacon Huey had 66 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a very dear sister-in-love, Mary (Mose) Holmes; a longtime family friend, Phyllis Weidman; the Spiritual Israel Family; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Pearl; beloved wife of 37 years, Br. Mo. Mobilene Wright, former wife, Jessie Lee Wright; his daughters, Paulette McCray, Betty Faye and Virginia Sanders; and a longtime friend, Everett Dumas.
