Deacon Wade Calhoun, Jr.

October 17, 1945 — February 11, 2018

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Deacon Wade Calhoun, Jr., departed this life on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Houston, Texas. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on October 17, 1945 to Wade Calhoun, Sr. and Mattie T. Smart Calhoun.

Wade attended Saginaw Public Schools during his formative years. He graduated from Kashmere High School in Houston, Texas. Wade worked for General Motors (Saginaw Nodular Iron Foundry), Wagner’s Auto and Pochelon Auto in Saginaw, Michigan until he landed his own business, Wade’s Body Shop. He was an avid artist and landscaper. Wade was a faithful member and Deacon at Greater Law Memorial Church of God in Christ, then under the leadership of Bishop N. H. Henderson, currently under Bishop W. H. Jenkins. Deacon Calhoun loved life, especially his family, children, grandchildren, and his wife of several years who preceded him in death.

Deacon Calhoun leaves to cherish his memory six daughters, Venita, Marquita, Manasseh, Crystal, Che’tara and Jasmine; fourteen grandchildren; three sisters, Calruth Callum, Detroit, Michigan, Malina Barlow and Gail Crittendon, Saginaw, Michigan; two brothers, James Calhoun, Saginaw, Michigan and Carnell Calhoun, Houston, Texas; two special friends of faith, David (Yvette) Haney; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the mother of his children, Elizabeth Meadows.

Deacon Wade Calhoun was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Calhoun; parents, Wade Calhoun, Sr. and Mattie T. Calhoun; three sisters, Gloria D. Trammell, Louise Calhoun and Barbara Cousins; one brother, Shelby Calhoun; one nephew, Duane Calhoun; one niece, Vatina Barlow and one aunt, Mable Shaheed.

The family expresses special thanks to everyone for the cards, kind words and other expressions of sympathy during our time of bereavement.
