Deloris Elizabeth Douglas

Mrs. Deloris Elizabeth Douglas passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in Wyoming, Michigan. Age 82 years. She was born September 20, 1941, in Winter Haven, Florida, to Jewel and Vina Swinton.


Deloris was a resident of Wyoming, Michigan. She was previously employed at Eaton Manufacturing, Caro Regional Center, and Freeland Correctional Facility from which she retired. Deloris graduated from Vassar High School and was not only a member of the school band, but she was also the first black cheerleader. Deloris enjoyed fishing, gardening, Bingo, and taking and collecting photos of her family. She was known for showing up at any event with her tote bag filled with her photo albums, always eager and excited to show anyone her photo collection. Deloris also enjoyed listening to music; especially anything by Earth Wind & Fire, Curtis Mayfield, and James Brown. Some of her other favorite things to do included watching Western movies and watching sports. The Detroit Lions, Pistons, Tigers, and The University of Michigan were her favorite teams. On Sundays, Deloris enjoyed watching church services on TV.


Deloris could be found on a weekly basis visiting her favorite food pantry and second-hand stores. She would not hesitate to stop at any garage or rummage sale that was in her path of travel. Although Deloris had many favorite things to do, her greatest joy was cooking and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.


Deloris leaves behind her husband, James Douglas, Wyoming, Michigan; she also leaves to cherish loving memories two daughters and two sons, Kimberly (James) Smith-McMillan, Larry Smith, Jr, Karen (Daniel) Dykgraaf, and Derik Smith; one stepson, Anthony Briggs; grandchildren, Vincent II, Brian, Corey, Larry III, Denzel, Kierra, Jennifer, Kelcie, Derik Jr, and Adrianna; she also leaves great-grandchildren, Christian, Vincent III, Elijah, Cammeron, Briana, Bailey, Eden, Tommie Raye, Larry IV, Jamilah, Autumn, and Xander. She will be missed by her sister, Lillie Swinton; five brothers, John, Johnathan, Sylvester (Barbara), William, and Ozie “Princess” Swinton; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; five sisters-in-law, Gwen Ledwell, Vanessa, Sharon, and Mary Myles, Deborah (Tommie) Jackson; two brothers-in-law, George Francis, John (Kani) Myles; Deloris also leaves behind special friends including Linda Pritchett, Luella Person, Peggy Philmore, Anita Lawrence-Hayes, and the entire Baldwin family.


Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, Jewel and Vina Swinton; grandparents, Leonard and Elizabeth Alston, Levi and Betsy Swinton; brothers, Jewell, Jerry, and Willie Jewel Swinton; many aunts and uncles; her mother and father-in-law, Anna and Johnny Myles; sisters-in-law, Freida Francis, and Evelyn Swinton; brother-in-law, Jesse Ledwell; special friends, Carol Baldwin, Marjorie Foster, and Joyce Oydendyk.
