Ms. Deloris James was born February 18, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama. The daughter of Daisy and Moses Manuel.
Deloris moved from her birthplace of Mobile, Alabama to Lansing, Michigan where she began growing her family. She had numerous jobs; she worked at Risen Hanes, a lunch aide for the school district, and she did custodial work as well. She was a member of Holmes Road Church of Christ for two years. One of her favorite pastimes was watching Gunsmoke and other Western shows. Deloris also loved to cook, her specialties were peach cobbler, greens, and chicken dumplings. Everyone especially loved her peach cobbler though, even her neighbors knew how good it was. She also enjoyed being surrounded by her kids and grandkids and talking s*@#.
Deloris leaves to cherish her memory children, Ervin (Anna) James, Ernesto James, Willie James, and Ireah (Floyd) Trainor; grandchildren; Floyd, Jr., Elliotte, Swain, McKayla, Sierra, Marissa, NaeSharrah, NuKeisha, Aaron, Charlie, Cameron, Willie, Jr., Natasha, Darilez, Tyson, Lavar, Kim, Antwain, and Marte; great grandchildren, JuJu, Alliyah, Rashay, NaNa, Sincere, Dae’Moni, E’Miya, Shontoya, Nada, and Jerry, Jr.; sister, Mildred Nettles; brothers, James Manuel and Jasper Manuel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daisy Lee Manuel and Moses Manuel; sons, Charlie James and Jerry James; daughters, Cathy Love, Lucille James; sisters, Ruthie Flower, Mary Sledge, Lucille William, Ora Calhoun, and Daisy Pate; and brothers, Ervin Hall, and Tom Manuel.
