Devonte Weems

Devonte James Tyreese Weems Dee Dee passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the age of 20 years. Devonte was born October 5, 1993 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Pamela Weems and the Oliver family.
Devonte was a lifelong resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He attended the Bridgeport Spaulding School District, earning his General Education Diploma (GED) in 2013. He loved to play basketball, write letters and draw. Most of all, Devonte loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a great fondness for his younger brother and his nieces and nephews. Devonte's favorite candy was Skittles. He loved spending time at grandma and grandpas house and he especially enjoyed spending time with his young son, Marquis. He loved his family very much, calling his grandparents mom and dad. Devonte will be greatly missed by his family, leaving a hole that can never be filled. His passing has saddened many who knew him all of his life.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Pamela; son, Marquis Williams; grandparents, James and Helen Weems; two sisters, Ranisia Bartee, Shana (Richard) Shelton; one brother, Devion Weems; one uncle, Kenneth Weems of Henning, Tennessee; one nephew, JLyn Weems, two nieces, Jaliyah Barnes and Zyon Shelton; great aunt, Madlon Bosquet; seven great-uncles, Jessie Jones of Saginaw, Michigan and Reginald (Phyllis) Jones of Memphis, Tennessee, Louis Sneed of Saginaw, Michigan, Thomas (Betty) Wilkins of Southfield, Michigan, Harold Wilkins of Las Vegas, Nevada, Tyrone Strickland of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Otis Strickland Jr., of Cleveland, Ohio. He also leaves special cousins, Martez Nuley of Walls, Mississippi and many other relatives and friends.
Devonte was preceded in death by his great-grandmothers, Bertha Jones and Lula Wilkins, and great-grandfather, Otis Strickland, Sr., great aunts, Mary Thomas, Lillie Jones, Verna Mae Smith and Lucille Reynolds.
The family would like to express special thanks to Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel for assistance given at this very difficult time. We also thank our many friends, especially our spiritual family.
