Ms. Devota W. Horton departed this life on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at her residence. At the age of 63 years. She was the oldest child born to the union of Willie T. and Saludatine Jones in Muskegon, Michigan. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at New Light Baptist Church, by her uncle and pastor, Reverend Elvin Smith.
She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1972 and earned an Associate Degree from Lansing Community College. She was employed for many years at the State of Michigan – Department of Education.
Devota loved attending church. She later became a faithful member of Mount Hope Church under the leadership of Pastor Dave Williams and Pastor Kevin Berry. She enjoyed volunteering in various ministries: Women’s Ministry, Singles Ministry, Child Care, Hallelujah Party, Passion Plays and witnessing to others. Devota decorated and baked goods for events at Mount Hope Church. She was a dedicated member of her Life Group. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, going to the movies and out to dinner.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, daughters, Spicee Jones of Muskegon Heights, Michigan and Timetra Horton of Lansing, Michigan; sister, Youlette (Ron) Jones Robinson; nephews, Jason Jones and Gerald Parker II. Many other cousins, relatives, and friends.
Devota was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Quinton Jones.
Devota will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
