Mrs. Diane M. Hewitt-Nellum was called home Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Covenant Healthcare- Harrison. Age 58 years. She was born March 5, 1953 in Picayune, Mississippi to Johnnie Mae Essex and Clifford Gordin.
Diane was raised in Tyler Town, MS by her loving adopted parents, Lucy and Albert Brock. She began her education at J.J. Gulledge Elementary School before relocating to Chicago, IL where she attended Englewood High School. Diane accepted Christ at an early age where God led her to True Holiness Tabernacle Church. In 1997, she moved to Saginaw, MI where she was reunited with her biological mother, Johnnie Mae Essex and family. She soon became a member of New Friendship Baptist Church. Diane had a love for helping others, she worked in the medical field as a certified assistant for years. She was a beautiful, compassionate and extraordinary woman who was always there for others during their time of need. Diane took great joy in cooking for others. She enjoyed fishing, singing and listening to her gospel music. She adored her family and friends. Her love was like a sea, you couldnt establish where it began or ended.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Norris Nellum; six children, Willie Brock, Renado Jackson, Cheryl Hewitt, Jovonda (Carlos) Marshall, Jolonda Mccall, Jowanda (Anderson) Turner, a special daughter-in-law, Katina Bradley; two stepchildren, John and Norrita Nellum, god-son, Bossie, 17 grandchildren, Lawanda, Darell, Caprice, Anastasia, Lolita, Carleonna, Renado Jr., Cayanna, Jovon, Keishara, Deondre, Carliara, Chantese, Javari, Torcoriyun, Carlayiah, Carvon; one great grandchild, Marcus; her loving parents, Johnnie Mae and Tommie Essex; four sisters, Joanna Thompson, Barbara (Carl) Brown, Linda King, Janice (William) Monroe; two brothers, Tommie (Brenda) Jackson, Ronnie Essex; one step sister and brother, Tyrone bloodshaw and Vicky Henry; god-sister, Brenda (Willie) Donahue; aunt, Ora Butler; special aunt and uncle, Rev. Eddie and Wanda Jackson; god-mother, Wilder Harvey; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Diane was preceded in death by her step-son, Norris Nellum Jr. grandson, Carlos Merrills, great grandson, Marquise Bagget; parents, Lucy and Albert Brock; two sisters, Bobbie Jean Washington, Corine Foster; god-son, Antwoine Pippens.
