Dimitri Williams

October 7, 1996 — May 17, 2013

Dimitri transitioned to his heavenly home on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the age of 16 from complications of a bone marrow transplant for sickle cell disease. Dimitri was born October 7, 1996 in Jackson, Michigan.
He attended Waverly High School in Lansing Michigan and would have been a 2014 graduate, ?Go Warriors!? Dimitri was involved in several athletic clubs while attending high school: Tennis, Bowling and Track. He obtained varsity letters while participating in these athletics. Even though he loved the sport of football he just could not play due to his illness, yet he was always there to support his younger brother, Alexander. You would always see him at sporting events walking around showing support for the team, and helping them with whatever the team might need at the time. The coaches and parents grew to love him, as though he was a part of the team.
Anyone who knew Dimitri understood that his favorite teams were the Miami Heat and the University of Michigan ?Wolverines? GOOOO BLUE! He would constantly talk about them and wear their colors. Dimitri enjoyed every weekend he could attending football games at the BIG HOUSE with his grandparents and family! Since Dimitri was an avid Miami Heat?s fan, one of his greatest dreams was to attend one of their games with his family. Dimitri was blessed to be able to go to Disney World and Sea World last summer with his family. He really enjoyed the trip.
Make-A-Wish Foundation made it possible for him and his family to purchase items that he had always wished for. What a wonderful organization they are to provide great opportunities like this.
Dimitri will be deeply missed by everyone that knew him. He was the kind of young man that anyone would be proud to call son, grandson, nephew and friend. Every time you would see him that smile would pop up on his face no matter what. He would always greet you with a smile on his face. He was a kid who no matter what, just wanted to be healthy like everyone else and be treated normally. Dimitri was well rounded and had a lot of ambition to succeed in life. He was a strong individual who showed everyone around him how to pursue ones? dreams.
He leaves to forever cherish his memory his parents, Anthony D. and Jami M. Owens; two brothers, Alexander D. Owens, Taj Mack Shakleford of Jackson, MI; sister, Ayla N. Owens; aunt, Tracy LJ Owens; cousin, Garrick T. Bradley; grandparents, Garland and Linda Williams; great-grandfather, Richard Shepard; an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and a very special friend, Chardae Alexander.
He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Robert Smith, Jacqueline Shepard, Louise Williams; grandparents, Anthony and Rosena Owens.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for funeral expenses or a college scholarship fund for the Owens children at either the church or Mr. and Mrs. Owens at 5311 Fairbanks, Lansing, Michigan 48917 or to the Sickle Cell Foundation.
