Dion Edwards

March 22, 1971 — February 6, 2021

Deacon Dion Edwards made his movie premiere on March 22, 1971. His last curtain call was Saturday, February 6, 2021, when God called him home. Despite having kidney failure, Dion maintained a strong relationship with God and undeniable faith.

Dion strengthened his faith when he became an ordained deacon at Newer Dimensions Fellowship Ministries. He attended church with his wife Francies and daughter Dyimond; shortly thereafter he was accompanied by his sidekick Teddie. Dion showcased his spiritual gifts through being a deacon inside and outside the church.

Making people laugh, specifically Francies, and having a good time, was always Dion’s goal. He loved taking pictures, no matter how blurry or clear, to show his wife off. Besides watching movies, going on dates, schooling her on cell phones and cases, Dion and Francies loved being parents to Dyimond. Dion took pride in having a wonderful relationship with Dyimond, so you can only imagine how excited he was about becoming the one and only Papa Dion.

As all of you may know, Teddie was Dion’s pride, joy and best friend. Anyone who came in contact with Dion knew right away that his best friend was a 55 pound two year old, who called him Papa Dion. Dion enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was in Detroit, Bay City or Saginaw. He also enjoyed spending time with his family in bay City and Saginaw. The time he spent with his family consisted of cookouts, parties, heated debates (that he always won), amusement parks, traveling and being DJ Psycho. He loved spinning records.

In his alone time, he enjoyed watching any movie for days, figuring out all electronics, and falling asleep in movie theaters. He loved eating his favorite food, spaghetti – with dessert being any kind of hard fruity candy. Regardless of the event, the time or place, Dion was sure to bring the love, the laughter and the politics.

Dion was preceded in death by his mother, Emma D. Harris; sister, Debra Chambers; brother, Kenneth Harris; and nephew, Ricardo Edwards.

He leaves beautiful memories with loving wife, Francies Edwards, Olmsted, Ohio; daughter, Dyimond Snow and grandson, Teddie Wilson, both of Bay City, Michigan; sister, Mary (Charles) Ruff; brothers, Dennis Lee Harris, Vittorio Edwards, Willie Edwards, Charles (Frances) Edwards, all of Detroit, Michigan; sixteen nieces; seven nephews; mother-in-law, Sonja McCullough; sister-in-law, LaShel McCullough, Saginaw, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Kevin and Morris Brown, Julius McCullough, all of Bay City, Michigan; a host of favorite relatives and friends, including several best friends.

The family would like to express special thanks to Bishop Maurice Hopgood and Newer Dimensions Church Fellowship, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
