Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother passed away at 94 years of age on February 15, 2025.
Mrs. Dolores (Bufford) Cooper, also known as “Dee Dee,” was born on May 29, 1930, in Alexandria, Louisiana. She married Sherman Cooper and relocated to Saginaw, Michigan, around 1955. Their union was blessed with three children. Dolores joined St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in 1955. She loved to travel, and she loved California. Dolores also loved reading, and her specialty was taking care of the sick. To Dolores, there was nothing better than a good party while jamming the box, as she used to say, “Let’s get it on!” Dolores was employed at St Mary’s Hospital for 7 years. She retired from Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital after 27 years. Dolores will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish loving memories, two children, Brian "Pat" (Diane Esparza), and Hollie; three grandsons, Kevin Tolliver, Keith (Ashanti) Jackson, and Molefi Cooper; five great-grandchildren, who named her “GG.” She gave two special names in return, Elijah/Sugaman, and Kash/Lolababy; a very special daughter, Elizabeth Deramus; special nieces, Stephanie Clemant, Jeanette Blacksher, Kai Bailey, Elaine Hollis, and Linda Mays; goddaughters, Freddie Hodges, Karlessa Morton; godsons, Sonny Hodges, Jamon Hodges, and Gary Lee Davis; special nephews, Bishop Dempsey B. Allen, Terrald and Todd Hodges; very special friends, Barbara Hollis, Nell Kelly, Lee Williams, and Lillia Pugh-Harris family; family friend, Keith Brown; and many other nephews and nieces.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Cooper; two sons, Craig “Petey” and Charlie Baker; one sister, Marie Massey; one brother; very special friends, Mary E. Davis-Sherrod, Virginia Taylor, Catherine “Big Weaver” Thompson and Betty Williams; many, many others she came to cherish and take care of.
When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we are apart, for every time you think of me,
I’m right there in your heart!
A Memorial service will take place at a later date.
