**Celebrating the Life of Donnie Roy Middlebrook**

Donnie Roy Middlebrook transitioned from this life peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in Lansing, Michigan, at the age of 75. He was born on Wednesday, March 30, 1949, in Stanton, Tennessee to James Benjamin and Mary Douglas Middlebrook. At age two, when his parents relocated to Waukegan, Illinois, Donnie began to cry for his grandmother, so his parents allowed him to remain in Stanton. There he lived and was nurtured by his grandparents, Abner and Mattie Middlebrook, and his two aunts Elsie Lee and Mattie Sue Middlebrook. He was the first grandchild born into the family, and affectionately referred to as his grandparents’ favorite. He was like a big brother to all his first cousins, and in this role, he quickly learned how to be a good steward.

Donnie attended Carver High School in Brownsville, Tennessee. He was a skilled musician, playing the tuba, saxophone, and trumpet in his high school marching band. His musical talents extended beyond the band, as he later purchased a piano and dedicated himself to becoming proficient at playing.

Upon graduating high school in 1970, Donnie moved to Lansing, Michigan to pursue his career. He was a devoted employee of General Motors Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 2007. His mechanical skills and leadership qualities were highly valued by his colleagues, and he was often sought out for his problem-solving abilities. He was the kind of team leader that everyone loved and would often desire to be a part of his team. When he transferred to new areas, his team would follow him. He also served on the Emergency Response Team and was recognized for his quick thinking and compassion in saving a life.

Donnie was a man of many talents. One of his favorite hobbies was working on cars. He enjoyed painting and drawing and was a great cook. He was also a sports enthusiast, always eager to discuss the latest games and share his knowledge with family and friends. Donnie was a wise and resourceful man, the “go-to” guy in his family - often sought out for advice and solutions to life's challenges. He could fix almost anything and, if he didn't know how, he would research and figure it out.

Donnie's greatest love was for his family. He was married to the love of his life, his best friend, Shirley Mae, and together they shared 50 beautiful years. Donnie was a faithful caregiver to his wife, demonstrating his unwavering support and enduring commitment until her passing in 2022. He cherished his children, Melanie and Damon, and delighted in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donnie knew and loved the Lord. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Union Missionary Baptist Church and served in various capacities, including the security team. Even during his illness, he demonstrated unwavering dedication to his faith. He was a kind and generous man, always willing to help those in need.

Throughout his life, Donnie was surrounded by the love and support of his family, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith.

Mr. Donnie Middlebrook leaves to cherish his memories, daughter, Melanie Williams; son, Damon Middlebrook; grandchildren, Sharece Webb, Troy (Kristal) Aubrey, and Jamarii Williams (Marisela); seven great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jeremiah, and Serenity Webb, Azalea, Annalecia, Ariyah Williams, and Alivia Aubrey; siblings, Charles (Paulette) and Maurice Middlebrook, Alfred (Felicia) Johnson, Michael Middlebrook, Gwendolyn Hemphill, Janilyn (Calvin) Jones, Cathy Lofton Middlebrook, Belinda Nesbitt-Moment, and Edward Nesbitt; uncle, Ocie Middlebrook; sister-in- laws, Mary (William) Hart and Belinda Hodge; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and friends including special friend, Royce Hairston.
