Doris J. Candies passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Sparrow Hospital. Age 61 years. Doris J. Benn was born September 28, 1954 in Joiner, Arkansas to David Brown, Jr. and Barbara J. Brown.
Doris, affectionately known as Nana, lived on Blackcat Plantation until the age of seven. She then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for almost two years until finally settling in Buffalo, New York. She attended Buffalo City Public Schools until completion. She married John Calvin Moore and from that union they were blessed with three beautiful children. In 1974, Doris relocated to Lansing, Michigan where she worked for General Motors Corporation for 15 years, Waverly Public Schools for 10 years and Sparrow Health Systems for 6 years. Nana was known for her honesty, words of wisdom, her ability to fight through every circumstance, and her love for her family! She never missed an opportunity to cook a meal, bring a few dishes to past at a family event, or to offer encouraging words to all!
Doris J. Candies memories will live in the hearts of her three children, Tiffinie J. Moore, Barbara J. (Elton) Moore- Johnson and David (Holly) Moore; her grandchildren, Sydney A. James, Brandon D. (Heather) Moore, Brandi Garrett, Paul Garrett III, Brook Garrett, Brayla Garrett, Makayla Moss, Blake Johnson, Denim Johnson, Jaden Moore, Briena Moore, Dorrian Moore and Isaiah Moore; her great grandchildren: Aniyah, Aaleyah, Brandon Jr., Blaze, Brayden, Kai and Milan; her sisters, Brenda F. Benn, Sandra D. Benn, April R. Brown and Tabatha O. Brown; her brothers, Kenneth W. Brown, Fernando (Cynthia) Brown; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David Brown, Jr. and Barbara J. Brown; sisters, Sherrie M. Brown and Ema Sue Pendleton; brother, Dawayne C. Brown; and special friend Earl Ray Heggins.
I want to say a special thank you to my Aunt San and Paul for staying by my side until my Mother made her transition. Thank you so much. The family would like to thank everyone for their encouraging words, during this difficult time. We appreciate every card, call and hug.
