Dorothy Mae Morris

March 22, 1935 — May 31, 2018

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Morris was born March 22, 1935 in Boyle, Mississippi to Henry Sr. and Ruther Bee Young. Dorothy was called to her eternal home on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the beautiful age of 83 years.

Dorothy’s family moved from Chicago, Illinois to Saginaw, Michigan where she resided until relocating to Toledo, Ohio due to illness. She was married to Sammie Lee Morris and they were blessed with two daughters, Gloria and Joann. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years where she served on various ministries and was known for her unwavering faith in God. She was employed by Sara Lee Corporation in Chicago prior to moving Saginaw where she was employed as a cook at the Amerwood Inn, and later in home healthcare for many years. Dorothy had been taking care of her brothers and sisters and others since she was ten years old. She touched the lives of countless people with her love and compassion. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her knew what she believed and in whom she believed. God’s love resonated through her and those whom she came in contact with were able to feel and receive that love.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, two daughters, Gloria Banks, Joann (Ester) Jones; six sisters, Ruther (Johnny) Holifield, Elizabeth (Billy) Showers, Mary (Willie) Holifield, LuBertha McGhee, Lucille (Robert) Williams, Betty Lawson; four brothers, Henry Jr. (Gennette), Jessie (Alexcia), Johnny (Ann), Eddie (Sue) Young; four grandchildren, Audra M. (Tim) Bradshaw, Dimetrius (Juky) Jones, Tomika S. Morris, Leslie LaToya Banks; six great-grandchildren, Mark Bradshaw, Jr., Audrianna Bradshaw, Tianna Hall, Samuel D. Watkins, Jr., Kayla Watkins, Savannah Jones, Mason Jones; one great-great-grandchild, Ja’elle Brooks; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; special son-in-law, Leslie L. Banks; special sister-in-law, Annie Rose Stephenson; very special nephew, Pastor Lamont Holifield.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Lee Morris; parents, Henry Sr., and Ruther Bee Young; three sisters, Ida Powell, Mae Francis Holyfield, Edna Young; grandson, Samuel Davis Watkins, Sr.

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would like to say, “Mom, rest on, job well done; fly high!”
