Ms. Dorothy Mae Culpepper Mildton passed away Friday, February 10, 2023, at her residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 88 years. She was born February 25, 1934, in Ragland, Alabama, to parents, Oney and Zerra Culpepper.
At the age of 10, Dorothy her brothers, parents, and other family members relocated to Lansing, Michigan, where she attended Lansing Public Schools. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1952, at the age of 18. After working a few different jobs throughout the years, Dorothy started working for the Oldsmobile division of General Motors in the 1960s. She faithfully worked there for over 30 years until retirement.
Dorothy loved entertaining and being surrounded by her family and friends. She especially loved being with her brother, children, and grandchildren. Dorothy was a fierce card player and was affectionately dubbed as the “Queen of Dominoes” by those who knew and played with her.
She will be missed beyond measure.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory son, Victor C. Mildton of Lansing, Michigan; grandchildren, Tishyn R. Mildton of Lansing Michigan , LaShonda Hursey of Lansing, Michigan, Niesha Nixon of Atlanta, Georgia, Rachod D. Mildton of Clarksville, Tennessee, Dashiris J. Mildton of Franklin, Kentucky; Chessani C. (Scott) Hartwell of Dayton, Ohio; and Khyareha Sanders of Kansas City, Missouri; 22 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; brother, Tommie G. (Ethel) Culpepper; nieces, Rhonda (Culpepper) Jones and Diane Culpepper ;cousins, Fanny Branklin, Jimmy and Johnny Callahan, Bearnice Bridges, Mary Jackson, Onetha, Alice Ruth, Irvin Callahan, and Richard Callahan; and many other relatives and friends that love her, with a loving acknowledgement of a few members of her card playing club, who were more like family, Margaret Banks, Hildred, Willie Jo, Neil, Mary Keebe, and Quinn.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Sabrina Mildton; son, James H. Mildton; granddaughter, Nakinah Bonds; parents, Oney and Zerra Culpepper; and niece, Cathy (Culpepper) Wray.
The family would like to express special thanks to Fanny Branklin and Daryl Roby for always being there when Dorothy needed anything.
