Dorothy Mitchner

December 16, 1950 — September 15, 2023

Mrs. Dorothy Mitchner, 72, transitioned on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Covenant Healthcare Cooper in Saginaw, Michigan. Dorothy was born December 16, 1950, in Desoto County, Mississippi, to Annie Mae and Willie Smith.

Dorothy attended Hamilton High School in Memphis, Tennessee, and graduated with the Class of ’69. Dorothy married Preitus Mitchner Jr. in 1972 and they lived together in Memphis, Tennessee for thirty-two years before relocating to Saginaw, Michigan. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who was always there when we needed her. Her laugh and smile were contagious. She enjoyed listening to music and loved to dance. You could always catch her singing a tune with a smile. After working for Cleo Wrap for many years, Dorothy found her passion for interior decorating and her love of fashion. You would always see her matching from head to toe; couldn’t tell her anything. After her father passed away, Dorothy

started coin collecting and loved to collect all different types of coins. In her spare time, she loved to care for her flowers and go shopping with family and friends, but most importantly she loved her grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by husband, Preitus; five children, Preitus (Gloria) Mitchner, Derrick (Tracy) Mitchner, Damon Mitchner, all of Memphis, Tennessee, Darrell Mitchner, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Danielle (Brian) Locascio of Saginaw, Michigan; grandchildren, Preius Mitchner, James Bolton, Derrick Mitchner, Deidrick Mitchner, Damon Boyd, Cataloya Mitchner, Nitara Locascio, Taven Locascio, Mileena Locascio, and Skarlet Locascio; siblings, Willie (Victoria) Smith, Ernesti Boswell, Diane (Jerome) Maxwell, and Carolyn Smith; many other extended family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by Tamika Mitchner, Annie Mae Smith, Willie Smith, and Larry Smith.

The family would like to express special thanks to Charles (Dale) Mitchner, Patricia Mitchner, Yvette (Curly) Jones, Pastor Dr. Craig A. Tatum and the New Life Baptist Ministries Church Family, Bill, Evelina, Debra, Lynn, Pearl, Elliot, James, Horace and all of the Badger Family, and a host of family members and friends.

You cannot possibly know just how much your support, our family, our many friends, and our church families, have meant to us in this most difficult time. We thank you for your visits, calls, the food, the countless acts of kindness, your presence today, and the abundance of prayers which has sustained and ministered to us.
