The life of Dorothy (Dot) Ann Patterson born February 14, 1944, in Plum Creek, Texas, our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home to be with the Lord on April 10, 2023, at the age of 79.
Dot was a resident of Lansing Michigan, she graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in 1962. She retired from the Lansing School District, where she worked for over 30 years as a Public Safety Officer, touching many lives.
Dot was a past long-time member of Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Charles J. Patterson (father-in-law) and currently attended New Mount Calvary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Lonnie J. Chipp, Jr. Dot was a faithful, reliable, dedicated member of New Mount Calvary. She participated in the choir, kitchen ministry, trustee, food bank distribution, and cleaned the church. Dot was a faithful member of the Mid-Michigan Idlewild Club, she held offices, and participated in organizing the cooking for many of the events. Dot enjoyed spending time at her other home up north entertaining her many family members and friends who would often visit. She met no strangers; you could always expect to laugh when she was around and eat good. Dot kept it 100%, she spoke her truth even if you did not want to hear it. She would always say, “I don’t drink or smoke” 😊. Dot loved sports and having family and friends gather for sporting events. Dot enjoyed traveling to visit family in Texas and Tennessee. During her visit, the family could always count on her cooking something good in the kitchen. Dot loved the Lord, her church, her friends and family and her Pastors, the late Reverend Charles J. Patterson, and Reverend Lonnie Chipp.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 59 years, Roosevelt Patterson, Lansing Michigan; two sons, Reginald Patterson and Radley Patterson; two sisters, Paula (Ronnie) Hodge, and Patricia (Stefans) Hampton both of Lansing; aunts, Louise Richard and Marie Mott, both of Dallas, Texas; many nieces and nephews, cousins including special cousins, Lula Moss, Dallas, Texas and Linda Moore, Lansing, Michigan, and friends, including special friend, Glendora Johnson and Dot’s grand dog, Paco.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Hilliard and Amie Ross, Lansing, Michigan; grandparents, Minnie Ole and Vivian Cunningham of Central, Texas, and Geneva and Hilliard Ross Sr., Lansing, Michigan; and brother, Edward James Johnson, Lansing, Michigan.
Dorothy, Dot, Aunt Dot, DP, you will forever live in our hearts.
