Dorothy Whitley

On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, God called one of his angels home from labor to reward, Mrs. Dorothy Whitley. She was born September 28, 1954 to Laura Harris and Milton Johnson.
Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Saginaw, Michigan. She attended Saginaw Public Schools, graduating from Saginaw High School class of 1972. At a young age she met the love of her life, Lester Whitley Wayne. They were introduced by her sister Marcia Clark Marsha and his nephew, Jerry Lee Whitley. Dorothy joined Lester in holy matrimony on April 2, 1978. She held a special place in his heart from the day they met. Dorothy had a passion for helping people with physical and mental disabilities. In 1976 along with her aunt Ida Mae Pool, she opened an adult foster care home in Pontiac, Michigan. Five years later in 1981 along with her mother, she opened Clark Adult Foster Care in Saginaw, Michigan. Along with her husband in 1988, she branched off the family business and opened Whitley Adult Foster Care 1 and 2. She loved her consumers and they all loved her very much. She was a great mentor to all. Dorothy received numerous awards from Saginaw County Mental Health. She loved traveling, fishing, outings with family and shopping. She was a very fashionable Diva. Gone but not forgotten, Dorothys presence will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Lester Whitley Wayne two special nieces and one nephew that she raised as her own children, LaCiesha, LaCoryia and Deontae Clark; step-parents, Elizabeth and John Johnson; two sisters, Mildred McElory and Sharon (Richard) McMillon; five brothers, Ervin Harris, Bensiont, Alvin and Michael Clark, Willie Hatchett; many nieces, nephews and cousins; one aunt, Kathy Nix; two uncles, Frank (Willie V.) Johnson, Translee (Mae) Macklin; two sisters-in-law, Sponcia (Robert) Bates, Gloria Shaw; brothers-in-law, C.J. (Saddie), Willie (Carrie), Charlie, John (Annie), Henry (Sandra), Bobby (Marylin) Whitley; many other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Laura Clark and Milton Johnson, one sister, Marcia Clark Marsha, one niece, Takiesha Clark, mother and father-in-law, Willie and Eliza Whitley, two brothers-in-law, Emmit Whitley and Hurley McElory Jody, two sisters-in-law, Ludell Taylor and Mary Bates.
