Mr. Douglas Gene Athy passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022, at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 71 years. He was born May 26, 1950, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Mailand and Helen (Horton) Athy.
Douglas was a lifelong resident of Lansing where he attended schools in the Lansing School District. He was a graduate of Lansing Everett High School. Douglas retired from Michigan Bell Telephone, working in the plant engineering department. He served in the United States Navy beginning in 1969 as a squadron analyst and earned an Honorable Discharge in 1973. Douglas enjoyed woodworking and making model building. He was always willing to help those in need of assistance.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Nicole Athy-Boegner; mother, Helen Athy; 2 sisters, Pam Athy Hackney and Teresa (Edward) Spencer; 3 brothers, Brian (Peg) Athy, Bob (Leslie) Athy, and Rick (Debbie) Athy; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mailand Athy; grandparents, Roy and Bessie (Rickett) Horton and Maitland and Ila (Sutton) Athy.
