Eddie Johnson Sr. (Lansing)

Mr. Eddie Johnson. Sr. passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at McLaren Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 78 years. He was born November 5, 1938 to Johnnie and Bella Mae Johnson in Wesson, Mississippi at King Daughter Hospital. He was the second oldest of four children.
Eddie lived in Mississippi until the 1950s. While there he attended Alexander High School, where he played football. He would later earn his high school diploma from J. W. Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan in 1973. Eddie left Mississippi for Charleston, South Carolina for work. From there he made Chicago his home, working as a chef. Eddie married Helen Pettiford in 1966 while living in Chicago. In 1969, the family followed his brother, Johnnie to Lansing, Michigan where the family remains today. Eddie loved cars and trucks, however everyone who knows him knew of his love for Cadillac! He loved to dress up and get SHARP! Eddie had many hobbies including fishing, cooking, building, music, gardening and sports. His favorite food was fish and spaghetti. Eddie was employed at Michigan State University for over 20 years. He attended Mount Olive Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. In his later years, he rededicated himself to Christ. Although Pops faced many health obstacles, he remained a happy and loving person until God called him home.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Helen; six children, Eddie, Jr., Victor (Saundra), Katrina (David), Rose (Robert), Deborah (Harold) and Bryn; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; uncle, Willie O. Lee, Sr. and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Johnnie, Jr., favorite aunt Elizabeth and niece Vivian.
