Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eddie Lee Smith Sister went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 9, 2013. Age 74 years. She was born May 8, 1939 in Tutwiler, Mississippi to Eddie Miles West and Nancy Jennings West.
Eddie was raised by her father Eddie Miles and stepmother Lottie West. After relocating to Saginaw, Michigan she was employed at the Home for the Aged. She retired in 1999 after many years of service. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Marvin T. Smith until her health failed her. Eddie was married to the late L.W. Smith Sr. and from that union six children were born. Eddie loved to cook and spend time with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Barbara Ann (Lester) Harris, Johnnie Mae (Larry) Moore, Peggy Smith, Laverne Smith, all of Saginaw, Michigan; two sons, L.W. Smith Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan, Lorenzo (April) Smith, Grand Rapids, Michigan; twenty grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy (Jimmy) Jones, Dianne and Yvonne West; three brothers, Larry (Joanne) West, Tyrone (Gogi) West, Anthony West, all of Saginaw, Michigan; one sister-in-law, Joyce West of Saginaw, Michigan; one brother-in-law, Roy Tate of Detroit, Michigan; two special cousins, John Lee Green, Saginaw, Michigan, Salon (Barbara) Jennings, Fort Wayne, Indiana; special aunt, Emma Jones, Cleveland, Ohio, four uncles, Johnny West, John West and James Eddie West, all of Cleveland, Ohio, Walter West, Tunica, Mississippi; many other relatives and friends whom she loved dearly including her special friends, Shirley and JT Jones of Saginaw, Michigan.
Eddie was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie West Jr. and Roy Lee West; a special aunt, Claudia Green.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Pastor Marvin T. Smith, the Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church family and the staff of Heartland Hospice Care.
