Eddie Mae Allen (Lansing)

Mrs. Eddie Mae Allen passed away Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Sparrow Health Systems, Sparrow Campus, in Lansing, Michigan. Age 72 years. She was born the daughter of Ruby Lee Purnell and Ever Lee Purnell on November 20, 1950, in Winona, Mississippi.

Eddie Mae was a longtime resident of Lansing, Michigan. She and her husband, Robert Lee Allen moved to Lansing, Michigan to make a better life for their family. She worked for and retired from Sparrow Hospital. Eddie Mae was a supportive Deacon’s wife to her husband. She was known as a “True Diva”. Eddie Mae loved her eyelashes and lipstick additionally, she always smelled so good! You always heard her say, “Stay ready, so that you won’t have to get ready.” Another one of her passions was cooking and baking. Eddie Mae loved to cook and bake for her family, especially her grandkids. She would feed anyone who was hungry, Eddie Mae loved to teach anyone who wanted to learn how to cook and bake. She also loved her family very much, always wanting the best for her 3 daughters. She loved music, she loved music that was upbeat.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her daughters, Alethea (Sammie) Lofton and Lamiah (Harold) Strong; Godson, Eric Allen of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, LaDaryous (Wykeena) Blocker, Sinise Summerville, Brianna Cannon, Brian Cannon “BJ”, Zana Cannon, LaPriest Blocker “Pooh”, Iman Blocker, Elijah White, Malachi Allen, Isaiah Strong, and soon to be born, Baby Strong; great grandchildren, De’zia Livingston, Noah Blocker, Caleb Blocker, Jeremi Miller, Majesty Blocker, Brielle Cannon, Kingston Cannon, Carter Hawkins, Luna Miller, and Noah Mason;3 sisters, Essie Jones, Patricia Campbell-Castro, and Michelle Duncan; 5 brothers, David Hobbs, Winfred Hobbs, Joe Hobbs, Michael Hobbs, and Nakiswa Hobbs; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Allen; daughter, Tanieka Cannon; mother, Ruby Lee Purnell; father, Ever Lee Purnell; and sister, Jessie Butler.
