Edith Kinchen

Edith Mae Kinchen was born July 27, 1935 in Denham Springs Louisiana, the daughter of Warner and Pearl Donahue. She gained her wings on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the well-lived age of 83 years.

Edith married Donald Kinchen in 1955. The two moved their family to Saginaw, Michigan in 1967, where she lived for the majority of her life with the exception of five years in Tacoma, Washington. She was employed at the Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital in the dietary department for nineteen years. She then worked at the Saginaw Country Club as a Dietician. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church, singing in the choir for several years and then later became a member of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church.

Edith loved reading romance novels and playing bid wist, in which she was very competitive. She enjoyed watching old western shows with Big Valley, Bonanza, Gunsmoke and the Rifle Man being a few of her favorites. She also enjoyed shopping and cooking those southern meals from Louisiana, especially fried chicken and red beans and rice. She had a great sense of humor but at the same time was no nonsense. Because of that, her grandkids in Tacoma deemed her “Grandma with the Slipper.” She always had a house shoe within reach where she could pop one of them on their behinds if they got out of line. She will truly be missed but her memory will live in our hearts forever.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Warner and Pearl Donahue; sisters, Lucinda Green, Ethel Lee Richardson, Beulah Mae DeVance, Frances Donahue; brother, Walter Donahue.

She leaves to celebrate her life daughters, Shirley (Mark) Penrod, Elaine Stephens, Edna (Castadero) Isaac; son, Ronald Kinchen; grandchildren, Damon Jackson, Jason Jackson, Stacey Stephens, Shaleen Guthrie, RusSele Stephens, Kevin Kinchen, Jasmine Kinchen, Derrick Kinchen, Ronald Kinchen, Adrian Kinchen, Chinelle Woodley, Eric Hunter, Caraun Vernon; twenty-two great-grandchildren; brother, Willie (Brenda) Donahue; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to express special thanks to all the staff at Covenant Hospital, A&D Skilled Nursing Facility, Great Lakes Rehab Center, Great Lakes Pace Program and Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
