Mr. Edward Thomas, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Covenant Healthcare-Harrison. Age 93 years. He was born on March 30, 1924 in Jackson, Georgia to Willie and Hattie Thomas. Edward was the first of three children.
Edward joined the United States Navy and received an Honorable Discharge on February 1,1974 as a testimonial of honest and faithful service. During his military service, Mr. Thomas received many decorations, medals, badges, commendations and campaign ribbons including the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He then became employed by the United States Postal Service until his retirement.
In 1944, Edward married the love of his life, Gladys Morgan. To their union, eleven children were born. The family moved from Jackson, Georgia to River Rouge, Michigan, later settling in Detroit, Michigan. They were married until her death in November, 1971. Edward married Janice Galsper in 2004. They moved to Bay City, Michigan where he resided until his death. Mr. Thomas will be truly missed by those who loved him.
He leaves to cherish memories his loving wife, Janice Thomas; nine children, Edward (Cheryl) Thomas, Jr., Snellville, Georgia, Evelyn (Sidney) Kirby, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Elnora (Leonard) Price, Lithonia, Georgia, Sandra (Larry) Thomas, Conyers, Georgia, Debra Thomas, Lithonia Georgia, Stephen Thomas, Detroit, Michigan, Jacqueline Colton, Lithonia, Georgia, Tammie Thomas, Snellville, Georgia, and Christopher Thomas, Conyers, Georgia; six step-children, Shawnterria (Eric) Lee, Clarence (Brandy) Galsper, Shanell (Terrill) Campbell, William Stanford, Suzanne (Joe) Bruske and Suzette Galsper, all of Bay City, Michigan; three adopted children, Shar’mein, Delmont and Quintavion Thomas, all of Bay City, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Eva Thomas, one son, Eugene Thomas, two brothers, Henry Thomas and Tommy Brooks.
