Elgentine Sangster

Ms. Elgentine Sangster was born November 9, 1934 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of James Alphonso Shy and Flora Mae Winters. She went from labor to reward on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the age of 86 years.

Elgentine, known as “Tina”, was a high school graduate and later received her surgical technician certification. She retired from Saginaw General Hospital after many years of dedicated service to others. She was a faithful member of New Life Baptist Church and previously served as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent.

Tina’s hobbies included playing bingo and volunteering. A servant at heart, she gave of her time at the East Side Soup Kitchen for five years and crocheted blankets for needy babies and children in hospitals and the community. She also made lap throws for seniors in nursing homes. Well done good and faithful servant.

Tina was preceded in death by a son, Tyrone Sangster; parents, James Shy and Flora Mae Winters; sisters, Johnnie Mae Reeves, Alberta Beard; brothers, Paul Lee Winters, Sr., James and Jean Shy.

She leaves to carry on her legacy three children, Tina Louise Sangster, Deborah R. Owens, Robert L. Sangster, Jr.; grandchildren, Delena M. Lacy, Deidra Owens, both of Nashville, Tennessee, Denesha Sangster, Dontarrus Sangster, both of Saginaw, Michigan, Monica Sangster, North Carolina, Robyn Sangster, New Orleans, Louisiana; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Manzie Winters; nieces, Carla Wise, Valerie Peavy, Loretta Willliams “Penny”, Jerlyn Beard, Flora Beard, Marilyn Reeves, Marlene Sanders, Marlene Gant-Winters; nephews, Paul Winters, Jr. “Chipper”, ReDell Reaves “Butch”, Manzie JR., Mark and Marcellus Winters; sister-in-law, Lillie May Sangster; special sister, Doris Gardner; special daughter Wendy, Houthoofd; special friends, Dorothy Gaines and Robin Hurst.

The family would like to express special thanks to RN Nellie from Covenant Home Care and Elgentine’s church family, friends and community. She enjoyed, loved, and appreciated every one of you.
