Minister Elgie Jones Jr. was born May 18, 1952 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the parents of Elgie Jones Sr. and Ophelia Lula Jones. He grew up in Saginaw, Michigan graduating from Buena Vista High School in Saginaw. Minister Jones worked for Saginaw Grey Iron, a division of General Motors. He retired due to his health on disability in 1983. Minister Elgie Jones was united in marriage to Lula Smith in 1985.
Minister Elgie Jones was very caring and was unselfish. He had an ease about himself that made everyone around him feel comfortable. He had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the choir when his health would allow. Minister Jones truly enjoyed serving the Lord and would often minister to people in the hospital and those who were incarcerated. He loved fishing and washing his cars. But, his greatest joy were his grandchildren and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Minister Elgie Jones Jr. departed this life on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the age of 59 years. He leaves to cherish his memories loving wife of 26 years, Lula Jones; 6 sons - Elgie (Sheryl)Jones III, Eric (Effelina) Jones, Delmont (Raquel) Johnson, Michael (Vicky) Smith, Isaac (Yolanda) Blackmon, James (Deshennia) Jones; 6 daughters Ernesha Jones, Taline Jones, Latrice (Darryl) Robbins, Sabrina Smith, Rolene (Willie) Rogers and Erma Jones; 41 grandchildren, 4 great grand children; 2 brothers Larry Jones and Thelbert (Lois Fay) Jones of Little Rock, Arkansas; 1 sister; Gloria (Roy) Jones-Isreal; uncle, Clarence McBride of Little Rock, Arkansas. A host of nieces and nephews and other relatives including special friend Estella Brown.
Minister Elgie Jones Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Elgie Jones Sr. and Ophelia Jones, daughter Latasha Jones, son Dion Smith, 2 grand children Delmont Johnson II and Rivona Stewart.
The family of Minister Elgie Jones Jr. extends great appreciation to Pastor Phillip J. Thompson and the Bethlehem Temple Family, Mt. Olive Baptist Church Family of Saginaw and Paradise Funeral Chapel.
