Elmer (Lansing) Phifer

Mr. Elmer Louis Phifer passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at Medilodge of Capitol Area in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 87 years. He was born on November 27, 1928 in Okolona, Arkansas to James Fred and Savana (Perry) Phifer.
Mr. Phifer, a resident of Lansing, Michigan, was a faithful member of Trinity AME Church where he was involved in many church activities. Mr. Phifer was a skilled contract laborer specializing in snow plowing, ground breaking and rotor tilling. He served with the Steward Board, Usher Board, Laymens organization, and was a Sunday School teacher. Elmer truly enjoyed Bible Study, and his personal ministry of visiting and praying for the sick and shut-in. Mr. Phifer served in the United States Army, and later retired from General Motors Corporation after thirty-nine years of service. He was an avid baseball fan who also loved gardening and traveling. On April 5, 1958, Elmer married Ruby B. Robinson who survives him.
He also leaves to cherish his memory five sons, Burrell Butch McGhee, Elmer L. Phifer, Jr., James R. Phifer and Myron L. Phifer, all of Lansing, Michigan, Michael K. (Jamie) Phifer, of Union City, Georgia; one stepson, Cornelius Robinson of Lansing, Michigan; grandchildren, Sierra, Destin, Joi, Arron, Jamille, Miles and Jeqa, and special granddaughter Micca Lee Barnett; great-grandchildren, Nazeriya, Cambrethan, Jaevonte, Parris, Laniyah, AVean, MyEira and Maaliyah; two sisters, Thelma Carter and Priscilla Stokes; one sister-in-law, Clara Pittman.
Mr. Phifer was preceded in death by two daughters, Catherine S. Phifer and Brenda M. Phifer; parents, James Fred and Savana Phifer; brothers, Fred and Columbus Phifer; one sister, Luvinia McPeak.
