Elnora Johnson (Lansing)

November 18, 1940 — November 11, 2020

Mrs. Elnora “Dell” Johnson made her transition on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at her residence in Lansing, Michigan, with her loving daughter right by her side. Age 79 years. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend went to be with her Savior, Jesus the Christ. Dell was born on November 18, 1940 in Demopolis, Alabama to her parents, Jessie and Susie Winston. She was the first born of six beautiful children, five girls and one boy.

Dell moved from Detroit, Michigan to Lansing, Michigan in the early 60’s where she met and fell in love with her wonderful husband, Larry Johnson. Dell always found it so hilarious that all of her siblings followed her when she moved to Lansing.

Our matriarch Dell, retired from Capital Park Hotel after many years of faithful service working alongside her sister, Bea. Though she retired she continued to work part time for Miller Road Senior Center. Dell also ventured into home health care for seniors for a short while. She had great compassion for family and friends. It wasn’t unusual for her to make room in her home for those in need. The sweet aroma of Dell’s cooking drew many to her home, both those invited and walk-ins! Dell especially loved her grandchildren, Tyrice, Shamara, Rickae, Philisha, Larry, Tekekia, Arnold Jr., Cheyenne, Arnold Jaye, Lavar, Savanna, and Christopher.

Dell was a member of Galilee Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Her beautiful dimples were no secret because Dell freely shared her comforting smile with friends and strangers. The sound of music and laughter was always apart of Dell’s mottos operando. If you ever wanted to play bid whiz Dell would always be willing to add you to her list of victims.

Honored to carry her legacy, daughter, Pauline (Ricky) Covington; son, Arnold Winston; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Jessie Pearson, Louise Miller, and Gloria (Johnnie Jordan); To the children of Dells siblings, her nieces and nephews, Nay Nay, special niece Tina, Lawrence, Darrell, Kieta, Essex, Monie, Tika AKA “Legs”, Nikki, Rashad, and Demsey, Jeremiah 33: 3 reads, “Call on me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things thou knowest not. Seek out the Lord that we may be together again.”. She also leaves many other relatives and friends.

Dell was proceeded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Bernice Blount and Ceola James; brother, George Ball; special niece, Gala Wala Swala Instant Winston; and Dell had a great love for her sister-in-law, Carolyn (John) Jones and brother-in-law, Roger Johnson.

Message to My Children
A son and a daughter what more could I ask. Cookie and Pauline are my future and my past. You completed my life with your love and joyous laughter. Lean on each other and get through this, the next chapter. Be not afraid of the shifts and changing course and look not to man but believe God’s report.

When the skies light was beginning to fade you held my hand and demonstrated what selfless love looks like. It’s all quiet now Uncle Bobby, the storm has ceased, and the rain is gone. I’m at peace with God, I’ve finally made it home.
