Elnora Ophelia Taylor "Eleanor"

Mrs. Elnora Ophelia Quarles Taylor, affectionately known as Eleanor,
departed this life on Friday, August 19, 2022, after a lengthy illness. Eleanor was born to Oliver F. Quarles and Lillie Halsell in Panola, Alabama.


Eleanor, the seventh of twelve children, was educated in public school in Panola, Alabama. Later, she attended Saginaw Valley State College where she received her bachelor and master’s degrees. Eleanor taught in Saginaw Public Schools until she retired.  She was a longtime member of Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church under leadership of Reverend Dr. Marvin T. Smith, Pastor. She served in several comparable positions at Mt. Olive. Eleanor was a member of the Alabama Reunion Club of Saginaw, Tri-City Michigan Chapter of The Links, Inc., and the Zeta Omega Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. She will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved her dearly.


She leaves to cherish her memory her son: Larry (Emma) Taylor; grandchildren: LuChrisa Caldwell, Lansing, Michigan, Felice (Kevin) Bond, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Latoya (Alex) Marshall, Chicago, Illinois, Shahena Caldwell, Lansing, Michigan, Anquay (Constance) Caldwell, Lansing, Michigan, and Christal (DeAndre) Lawson of Freeland, Michigan; great-grandchildren: Elijah (Dymond) Black, Keiana Caldwell, Marcus Scott, Javion Scott, Trinity Caldwell, Taylor Lawson, Anthony Diggs Jr., Jalan Howard, Tyler Howard, and Myana Howard; sisters: Lillie Thomas, Saginaw, Michigan, Bertha (Aaron) Pruitt,  Gainesville, Alabama, and Geneva (Jack) Long of Saginaw, Michigan; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law: Laura Quarles, Saginaw, Michigan; brother-in-law: George Turner of Gainesville, Alabama; many other relatives and friends.


Eleanor was predeceased by her father and mother, Oliver and Lillie Quarles; son: Melvin Taylor; grandson: Melvin Howard Jr.; sisters and brothers: McClure and Jim Atkins, Almonia and Jim Burrell, Hazel Turner, Oliver Quarles, John E. Quarles, John H. Quarles, and Elvina Quarles; stepdaughters: Johnnie Mae Richardson and Mildred Taylor.
