Mr. Elton Lloyd Jones, affectionately known as “Duke” by family and friends was received by the Lord on December 14, 2022. Age 65 years. He was born June 7, 1957 in Caruthersville, Missouri to loving mother Fannie Jones-Young.
Elton was a graduate of Sexton High School and spent many years as an engineering tech at General Motors in Lansing, Michigan. Duke was a smart and creative soul. He was a dreamer, a believer, a writer and an artist. He could find a way to make something out of anything; a candle holder from a sheet of foil, a Halloween costume out of a black trash bag, or a dollhouse out of a cardboard box, among many other innovative ideas. He lived life to the fullest every single day; fishing, mowing lawns, helping others and spending time with family and friends. He celebrated the successes of his sons, loved the holidays and believed in the strength and the depth of the Jones family. Duke was in the process of creating a family tree with the intent to keep the Jones family connected across the country.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons Elton (Liza) Jones of Lansing and Nathaniel (Washeema) Jones of New Jersey; Step Daughter Lakeisha McClain of Lansing; four grandchildren, Ariel Jones, Florida, Aalita Rios-Jones, Lansing, Naomi and Naheema Jones, New Jersey; sisters, Patricia Simmons, Fannie Jones, Odessa Jones, all of Lansing; brothers, Ervin Jones, Anthony (Angela) Jones, Gilbert (Hilda) Jones, Otis Jones, all of Lansing; nieces, Antoinette (Edwin) Jones, Charina
McCullem, Renecia McCullem, Meneriva (Freddie) Smith; nephews, Anthony McCoullem, Jamari Bibbs, Christopher (LaToya) Ethridge; special friend Dionne McClain; and many great nieces and nephews as well as the numerous other family and friends that Duke consistently reached out to and maintained strong ties.
He was preceded in death by mother Fannie Jones-Young; brothers, Jake Jones, Willie Jones, Calvin Jones; nephews, Richard Simmons, Jaquille Wiseman, Dilanjan Allen; and great nephew Devon Johnson.
