Mrs. Emogene Leek passed away Friday, April 15, 2022, at her home in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 88 years. Emogene was born March 17, 1934, in Lansing, Michigan to Otis and Ethel Kinnebrew.

Emogene was a lifelong resident of Lansing.  She was educated in the Lansing School District attending Walter French Junior High School and graduating from J. W. Sexton High School. Emogene loved God and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church. She later became an active member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. She did the kitchen ministry and more including shopping and preparing food for Vacation Bible School, funeral repasts, anniversaries, and other church events.  Emogene sang in the choir, drove the Church Bus for trips, sewed choir uniforms, and she was the obedience Usher (you know the usher that gave you “the look” in the pews and wherever else she was needed. Emogene enjoyed cooking, sewing, shopping, camping, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She also liked to watch television, especially Dr. Phil, R & R, court shows, Lifetime, and of course keeping up with the news. More activities that Emogene enjoyed were bird watching and anything dogs-related—she absolutely loved her dogs. Emogene was kind, loving, caring, and honest, but above all, she genuinely loved her people. She loved to help others and welcomed anybody in with open arms, Emogene loved giving hugs.
