Eric Lamont Davis was born on March 14, 1951 to Manual N. Davis and Frankie Marie (Looney) Davis in Lansing, Michigan.
Eric received his formal education through the Lansing School District, finishing at J.W. Sexton High School. He was employed by the City of Lansing as a sanitation worker through their Model Cities program. He attended The Tithe Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ben Wade, and they embraced him with open arms.
Eric married his high school sweetheart, Wendolyn Benson; during their marriage two children were born. Eric lived a full life. Full of mistakes, full of repentance, full of adventures, full of love, full of friends, full of family-those related by blood and marriage and those related by the spirit of love that flowed so abundantly and constantly from his heart. His life was full of compassion for the elderly, full of diligence to his work at The Tithe Missionary Baptist Church, full of pain, full of strength, full of courage.
Eric's greatest passions were children and his family. One of his favorite hangout spots was the CATA bus station where he loved to feed the pigeons. Everyday he would say "I've got to go feed "my" birds. Without fail, whether it meant walking, catching the bus, or asking family for a ride he went downtown to feed his birds. At his mom's house he had a favorite squirrel that he also fed daily. The squirrel became so dependent on Eric, that if Eric was late putting out his scraps for food, the squirrel would climb to the window seal and look in the house for Eric. Eric was an ordinary man, with an extraordinary heart, fullfilling God's predestining plan.
On Wednesday, December 11, 2013, Eric passed away peacefully. Eric will forever be remembered and loved by his daughter DeShelle of Columbus, Ohio; his son, Marquis and his wife Tesha of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Tyler, Mizaan, Karim, and Don Jr.; one sister, Alma; five brothers, J. Otis, Manuel Jr. (Carolyn), Robert, Jodie (Dori) all of Lansing, Michigan, and Christopher of Nashville, Tennessee; one aunt, Maudie Rogers; adopted mom, Mother Florence Latham. Eric will also be remembered by his extended family including nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Eric was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother Alonzo.
