Eric N. Hester (Lansing)

Eric Neal Hester passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020 in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 60 years. He was born June 25, 1950 to Alvis Jr. and Ruby L. Burton-Hester in Munford, Tennessee. Eric was the second born of seven children and the oldest son.


Eric, affectionately known as Bobo & Big Money Grip, was also nicknamed “Money” by his local community friends. Eric attended Lansing Eastern High School “The Quakers” where he played varsity basketball graduating in 1977. Eric was raised in a Christian home that faithfully attended Robinson Memorial Church of God in Christ. Eric had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed the National Geographic, painting houses, boxing, avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and dogs. But most of all he loved spending time with his family! Although Eric was legally blind, he never allowed his circumstances to define or limit him. He was very independent, refusing to use a cane and he never complained.


He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Eric Marquise Hester, Nathan M. Ruiz; two grandchildren, Silas Marquise Hester, Bryceson Jo Hester; mother, Ruby Burton-Hester; five brothers, Kenneth (Jana), Randall (LaNette), Karl (Tracey), Kerry (Tiffany), Martice (Molly); brother-in-love, Jessie Brown; special friend, Paula Taylor; “many many” other relatives and friends, including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Eric was preceded in death by his father, Alvis Hester, Jr. and sister, Belinda Brown.
