Ms. Erma Green passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at her residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 79 years. She was born October 19, 1936 in Jackson, Michigan to the late M.C. and Verlene McKinney.
Erma accepted Christ at an early age in Jackson, Michigan. She was a member of Community A.M.E. Church under Pastor Chestine and Pastor Weathers. Erma worked at Aeroquip Corporation for more than 20 years. In 2002, she moved to Charlotte to care for her brother, Wiley McKinney, Sr. In June of 2009, Erma joined Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Lester D. Stone and was baptized. In May 2015, she rededicated her life to Christ at Mind, Body, and Soul Outreach Ministries under Pastor Nathaniel Thomas, where she was the Mother of the church. Erma has always been a servant of Christ. She loved her family and her dog, ChiChi. She was involved in the community in various ways including serving as a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader. She also was a representative selling Avon, Stanley, and Tupperware. Erma had a passion for bowling, building puzzles, scratch off lottery tickets, casinos, electronic games, the Detroit Tigers, Lions, and Pistons. Her passions also included potato chips, ice cream, grape pop, Family Feud, cowboy movies, her soaps. Her final passion was babysitting her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and interacting with all people.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Dequanda Nixon of Lansing, Michigan and Edwana Davenport of Noblesville, Indiana; one son, John Davenport of Jackson, Michigan; three adopted sons, L.V. Grubbs, Sr., Darrell Grubbs, and Ricky Grubbs; 14 grandchildren, KyIssa and Jerrell (Marlene) Nixon, Shanise Davenport, Jessica Stallworth, David Stallworth II, Antione Chapman Green, Chapman and Teresa Farral, Ayonna (Josh) Bays, Sherman Morrell IV, Chrisie, Monique Williams, Tamia Williams, Delisa Torry and Breanna Rice; 15 Great-Grandchildren; four sisters, Donna McClinton of Lansing, Michigan; Pokey Mary James of Flint, Michigan; Delores McKinney of Flint, Michigan; Dora McKinney of Lansing, Michigan; and one brother, Marcus (Jammie) McKinney of Charlotte, Michigan along with many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents, M.C. and Verlene McKinney; grandparents, Lawrence and Cordelia Sisson; four sons Lee, Derrek, and David Stallworth, Lamarr Green; four brothers, John, Mack, Wiley, and Norman McKinney; and two sisters Marilyn McKinney and Lorraine Hill.
