Ernest Wafer

Mr. Ernest Wafer passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. Age 70 years. He was born December 21, 1943 in Saginaw, Michigan to Purnell Morris and Helen Akins.
Ernest was a graduate of Saginaw Public Schools. He was employed at Saginaw Grey Iron Foundry and retired after several years of faithful service. He was also a member of UAW Local 668. Ernest was a member of Ames United Methodist Church under the leadership of Pastor Scott Lindenberg. He enjoyed fishing, boating, electronic and taking care of his lawn. Ernest was a very outgoing person who loved to travel. His presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
His memory will be forever cherished by his devoted wife, Doris Loretta Wafer; three daughters, Deatera (Kenneth) Wafer-Long of Saginaw, Michigan, Sonja Pelt of Alabama and Desma Wafer-Carter of Saginaw, Michigan; two sons, Ernest D. Wafer of Dallas, Texas and Emery L. Wafer of Saginaw, Michigan; grandchildren, Dominique, Kentera, Kenneth and Corsica Long, Kameron, Justin and Jaden Wafer, Markus and, Journee Carter, Tyler Hill, Lance Monroe, Emery Wafer Jr., Deondrea, Symone, Ernest, Antwone, Jaquise, Ernest Jr., Breana, Aspin, Adrean, Jaden, Delonce, Jordan and Jovan Wafer; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Flora Brooks, Loretta Johnson and Angenell Akins-Nelson; two brothers, Allen and Lucius Wafer; ten nieces and ten nephews; special aunt and uncle, Shirley Akins of Flint, Michigan and Bobby Akins of Panama City, Florida; five sisters-in-law, Alice Aikens, Linda and Sherri Wafer, Della and Renee Murphy; two brothers-in-law, Albert Murphy Jr. and Alfred W. Murphy; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Van Robinson, Bobby Jones and Willie Swilley.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Purnell Morris and Helen Akins, step-parents, Lucius Wafer and Willie Shipman, grandparents, Charlie and Mami Akins, one brother, Douglas Wafer and other dearly loved relatives.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Covenant Healthcare Rehabilitation, ICU unit and Covenant Visiting Nurses Association.
