ESTELLA BUIE passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at her residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 88 years. She was born July 8, 1929 in Brookhaven, Mississippi. The daughter of Willie Mae Brewer Campbell and Charlie Campbell, Sr.
Estella was born and raised in Brookhaven, Mississippi, where she attended school and received her education. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. Estella and her husband, the late Garfield Buie, Sr. and their children moved to Lansing, Michigan over 60 years ago.
Estella was employed at Michigan State University as a cook. She retired after tirelessly working there over 30 years. Indeed, Estella was known for the delicious food she prepared with love! Her food was well known from Mississippi to Michigan, including her tasty one-of-a-kind PEACH COBBLER and LEMON ICE BOX PIE – to name a few dishes!!! She insisted on preparing and eating Collard Greens and Cornbread every day. It was never too hot or too cold for her to fire up her barbeque grill. Many days, Estella would share her food with those who were hungry; she was known to pack her cooked food in her car to deliver meals to many in need who did not know where their next meal would come from.
“Sweet Stella” enjoyed her life to the fullest. However, she was a praying Christian woman who thanked God for His many blessings every day! She was a proud woman and stood ready with a willing heart to help anyone she could. Her appearance was very important to Estella. She enjoyed encouraging people who were often overlooked and if she found they needed food, shoes and clothing—she would not stop until she helped in meeting their needs. Family was so very important to Estella. She made it a priority to check on her loved ones and tried to make sure to help them in any way she could. Simply put, Estella had a “Heart of Gold”! She was a very wise woman who never met a stranger!! Anyone who knew Estella would say she really loved her family, friends, music, dancing, preparing tasty food, and simply having fun with people! She possessed a fondness for the many Cadillac cars she purchased throughout the years. Thus, earning the nickname, “Cadillac Stella”! But most of all she loved the Lord!! She will forever be remembered as a virtuous woman who was dearly loved by her family and many, many friends! “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10
