Mr. Eugene Roby "Gene or Pete" passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Covenant HealthCare Cooper in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 78 years. He was born April 7, 1945, in Sallis, Mississippi, the 5th child of Nona Cain and Clarence Roby.
Eugene attended school in Mississippi, and when he was old enough he moved to Chicago, Illinois. He later relocated to Saginaw, Michigan, where he met the love of his life, Johnnie Marie Ellis. Eugene worked for many years at General Motors (Saginaw Malleable Iron) and was affiliated with UAW Local 455. He loved working with his hands as a carpenter and soon became a respected real estate landlord until his illness. In his spare time, Gene loved grilling and enjoyed cooking and gardening. He was also a great singer. We will always remember the long road trips to Mississippi with him singing all the way. "Gene" to some and "Pete" to others will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved him dearly.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Regina (David) Stewart; three sons, Jasen and Anthony Roby, Saginaw, Michigan, and Eric Roby, Dallas, Texas; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice Gordon, Bernadine Brown, and Agatha (Andrew) Ruffin; twelve nieces; thirteen nephews; brothers-in-law, Jimmie Dulaney, and Murry Roby; sisters-in-law, Catherine “Nettie” Roby, and Vickie Roby; a special cousin and dear friend, Hubert Williams; many other cousins and friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Marie Roby; parents, Clarence and Nona Roby; two brothers, John, and Vernal Roby; one sister, Ernestine Dulaney, and three brothers-in-law, William Gordon, Van Brown, and John Gaddis.
