Evangelist Walterine Townsend (Lansing)

September 13, 1941 — December 20, 2020

Evangelist Walterine Townsend was born to Wilhelmenia and Johnnie Townsend on September 13, 1941, in Belzoni, Mississippi. The Lord called her home on Sunday, December 20, 2020, after a brief illness.

She was a very faithful and active member of Divine Destiny Outreach Ministries Church in Lansing, Michigan, under the leadership of her son, Pastor Walter and Lady Francine Allen. She was also a very devoted member in her former church, Overflow Ministries Covenant Church, under the leadership of Apostle Bennie and Pastor Delores Fluellen. During her nine-year residence in Charlotte, North Carolina she was a member of the Mother’s Board, Intercessory Prayer Ministry, and sang in the choir at New Life Fellowship Church, under the leadership of Pastor John P. Kee.

Evangelist Walterine Townsend received her early education in Belzoni, Mississippi. After leaving high school, she got married, started a family, and relocated to Lansing, Michigan. In 1973 she relocated to Dayton, Ohio where she pursued her lifelong passion for styling hair. In 1974 she obtained her Cosmetology License from Honey’s Beauty School. She was self-employed as a Cosmetologist and after working in several salons; she went on to open her own salon a few years later. Evangelist Walterine worked as a hair stylist until she retired in 1996.

Evangelist Walterine was a true Prayer Warrior, Prophetess, and Intercessor. She spent most of her days praying for people and imparting into them a word from God. She also loved fellowshipping with the saints at her favorite restaurants.

She leaves to cherish in her loving memory, her children, Kathy (Pastor Tony) Howard of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jacqueline Davis, Aldrek (Denise) Allen, Walter (Francine) Allen, Timothy (Valerie) Allen all of Lansing, Michigan; 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Evangelist Vergie (Bishop Aaron) Milton, Evangelist Verlean Townsend, and Sarah Townsend all of Lansing, Michigan; Goddaughters, Brandi Norman, Lady Barbara Williams, Ravin Cheeks, and Tyna Thompson; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Evangelist Maria Stinson and Patricia Dewberry.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lurrie Dean Cole, and granddaughter Zarica Allen; parents, Wilhelmenia and Johnnie Townsend; sisters, Geraldine Nelson, Mandy Townsend, and Linda Reid; brothers, Lee Albert Hudson, Lee Charles Townsend and Paul Townsend.
